Silent video explanation

Posted June 16th, 2008 in search, Video by Bas van den Beld

There are more and more videos on the Web that give explanations about the functioning of a product or service or as aen even promotion for example. The video below is a combination of explanation and promotion. It revolves around the search event SMX Advanced. Organizer Danny Sullivan, a search-greatness, has been interviewed. It is however an interview in a very different style than we are accustomed. There has been chosen for the format of the ‘silent movie. " Very funny and done a good way "to get noticed" between all those other videos. Whether the message comes across really well however, has to be seen.

Henk already put this image on Dutch Cowboys this morning and I thought that could not be lacking on this blog. If you want an overview off what you must take in account if you deal with Search this image of Elliance is a very good one. Then perhaps you understand that you can’t know everything ;) .

Unique series of search interviews on DC

Posted June 6th, 2008 in search by Bas van den Beld

Search interviews op Dutch CowboysYesterday we started a unique series on Dutch Cowboys . It is a series of interviews with key people from the search industry. The interviews will be posted as podcasts, text or video. Because it is a list with some impressive (search) names a unique file will get compiled.

It is an initiative of Joost de Valk (OnetoMarket), Eduard Blacquière (Outrider) and myself. Together we have the contacts, the knowledge and the questions and we can make the interviews a success.

In the coming months interviews with Kevin Ryan (organiser SES), Dennis Mortensen (Indextools), Danny Sullivan (SearchEngineLand) and Matt Cutts (Google) will be posted. They will inform us about their vision for the searchmarkt.

The series has been kicked off with Kevin Ryan who this month was shortly in the Netherlands. Kevin Ryan is the global content director for Search Engine Strategies (SES) and Search Engine Watch. In that role Ryan is responsible for organising the various Search Engine Strategies seminars and the contents of the Web site Search Engine Watch.
Joost de Valk talked to him. The first interview is now on DC!

I encourage everyone to follow this series. You get it a good picture of the current searchworld. And a final note: that great header was created by Roy Huiskes of OnetoMarket. Can you recognize me? ;)

SEO Graphics: duplicate content

Posted May 14th, 2008 in explained, search by Bas van den Beld

Search Illustrated from Searchengineland often has useful graphics that in short and arranged explain how something works.

Another nice explanation they give this time is about how a search engine determines whether something is ‘duplicate content’ (content that seems to appear multiple times), or not. Fun to look at and very instructive.

Checkit and Aegis show us how you can also send a press release

Last week Aegis Media announced that it was taking over Search Engine Marketing firm Checkit. Except for that this interested me because a) the relationship that I have with Checkit and b) the importance of this acquisition for the search engine market in the Netherlands, there is something else interesting about it: the announcement.
As usual, the parties in the run-up did very secretive and the press release was released on a specific date and time. Checkit and Aegis Media, however, did something else: they put an announcement of their cooperation on YouTube.[/lang_en]
