A new experience: being a judge at SES Amsterdam

Category:Events Tags :

Today I had a new experience. For the first time I took part in a jury for an award. And it was fun! I am one of the judges for the search engine marketing award in the Netherlands, which is being presented at Search Engine Strategies Amsterdam, later this month.

Being a judge is fun, it is a bit similar to looking at proposals, which I do for clients also. The big difference off course is that in this case the job is already done. When judging I took an extra good look at innovation. I believe its important that search marketing agencies innovate and  use the web to its fullest.

At the same conference I will be leading a panel on news and search in which amongst others Brent Payne. It will be a good conference by the looks of it. Joost de Valk together with BBP and Incisive Media has been busy with the program for some months now and I must say, it looks good! Bill Hunt, who I have seen several times this year, will come as will Dixon Jones and off course Mike Grehan. But don’t forget to look at some of the Dutch speakers like Eduard, and I am especially looking forward to hearing David Brinks & Ramon Eijkemans talk about SEO copywriting.

Are you going to be at SES Amsterdam? Come say hi!

Speaking at and looking forward to SES London 2010

Category:speaking Tags :

In a year there are a couple of months in which the search marketing industry tends to organize their events. The first couple of months are February and March. This week therefore my first period of traveling and speaking starts again. In London Search Engine Strategies 2010 starts. I will be speaking on the second day, but I am also very much looking forward to both the program and the fact I’m meeting up with a lot of my friends again.

Speaking

As said, I am speaking at SES London this year. Which makes me very proud. Only a few years back I visited SES London as one of the anonymous visitors, blogging for Dutch Cowboys. Now I am on stage. And I am talking about that route. How I got from sitting in the audience to being pretty well known in the industry by using social media. I will post the presentation here soon!

Search in Holland: my presentation at the International Search Summit

Category:speaking Tags :

Last week I was invited by Andy Atkins Kruger of Webcertain to talk on the International Search Summit in London. He organizes this event to give people a better view on international and multilingual Search. The event was very well organized (credits to Gemma Birch) and also had a very good line up of speakers. Amongst others Bill Hunt, Motoko Hunt, Dixon Jones, Will Critchlow and Kristjan Mar Hauksson made their appearance. I was very impressed with the quality of speakers and especially liked the talks of Motoko Hunt and Ching-Yun Huang about search in the far East, Japan and China.

In the afternoon it was my turn to do a talk about Search in Holland. I took a little different approach then most other speakers. The angle I took was somewhat cultural. I took the audience by the hand explaining them what Dutch are like and how that translates to the web and search. It was somewhat of a detour but that was intentional because I believe that if you don’t know who you’re optimizing for you won’t succeed.

Looking forward to the International Search Summit

Category:speaking Tags :

International Search SummitThis Thursday I will be speaking at the International Search Summit in London. This event, which is organized by Webcertain, will take place in the British Library in London. And for an historian that is off course a very nice place to be speaking at! I am very much looking forward to this event, for several reasons:

The event itself

First of all off course the event itself. A look at the agenda and speakers list shows that there will be quite a few interesting speakers I will want to be listening to. Bill Hunt is there, who will also be keynoting at SES Berlin the week after, I always enjoy listening to Will Critchlow and it will be very interesting to hear Motoko Hunt speak about Search in Japan. Check out the entire line up here.

Speaking at A4U Expo London

Category:speaking Tags :

Next week its A4U Expo in London. A4U Expo is probably one of the best organized events in Europe, if not in the world. The Expo is organized by Matthew Wood and his team. The event is special, amongst other things because it brings together affiliates and search marketers. This unique combination is a guarantee for learning a lot.

I am going to be one of the speakers at A4U London this year. In the session "You want to Tweet What!? – Social Media, Twitter and Affiliate Marketing" I’ll be speaking about brand building by using social media. In the past year Searchcowboys has gone from virtually unknown to a very well known brand in the industry. I’ll be telling how I did this using social media. With that I’ll try to ‘learn’ the audience how they could be doing their brand building via social media. It’s gonna be a very interesting session!

If you want a last minute chance to see my presentation live (before I put it on slideshare next week) at A4UExpo you can now book with a 10% discount at A4UExpo by using the code "SPKD10" or "COWBOYS10". Be sure to do so!
